On June 13th 1981 13 parishioners were commissioned
as eucharistic ministers for Crook at Ushaw
College near Durham.
Today we are 51 ministers of the Eucharist working in
our Parish, visiting the housebound with holy communion and
assisting with distribution of the eucharist at weekday and
Sunday masses. We are a happy mix of retired and working
men & women but unfortunately very few youngsters among
us.
Each week we visit on average 25 of our elderly or housebound
parishioners. In order to do this at least 36 of our ministers
are grouped into teams of four and each group is responsible
for 2 or 3 parishioners who receive holy Communion after
every Sunday morning mass.
Some parishioners are visited during the week after a morning
mass and we also visit the local hospital and nursing/residential
homes each week.
Each year we renew our commitment on the feast
of Corpus Christi and during the year we undertake a
day of prayer together.
