A Brief History

A brief history of the Church of Our Lady Immaculate & St. Cuthbert Crook

Our Lady Immaculate and St Cuthbert's Church was opened on 25th October 1854.

Designed by Pugin it has many beautiful architectural features and impressive stained-glass windows.

It is a pretty church and is much loved by its parishioners.

Next to the church the original Victorian school has been transformed into the St Cuthbert’s Community Centre and further up the hill is St Cuthbert’s RCVA Primary School.

The Parish has been supported by an order of nuns since August 1862, and although the convent building has recently been sold, the Daughter’s of Divine Love are now based in the parish house and work both in the church and the community.

There is a lovely booklet available called “A History of the Parish and Church of Our Lady Immaculate & St. Cuthbert Crook” written by a parishioner in 2003, which can be obtained free of charge at the back of church.
